As the country mourns and celebrates the demise of a legal legend and encyclopedia, the late Prof. George Wilson Kanyeihamba who passed on at Nakasero Hospital on July 14, 2025 morning, much shall be remembered most especially his braveness.

Prof. Kanyeihamba has been one of the few greatest giants, brave, knowledgeable, passionate, countrymen and open minded Ugandans i have ever met and closely interacted with.

His braveness never stopped at criticizing powers that be, but also to his personal life.

Early this year 2025, when Dr. Col. Kizza Besigye was facing trumped up charges in the illegal General Court Martial, the late Professor was very bitter with the leadership of president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and his son, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba who happens to be the commander of the Uganda Peoples’ Defense Forces, over the injustices against his long and best friend.

Critical of the regime as he was, Prof. Kanyeihamba could on several occasions invite media most especially Digitalk Tv, where he has been the patron of the youthful media innovation, to share his thoughts on every matter he rendered important.

One afternoon, police drone cars with shouting sirens bypassed Professor, along Mukwano road, and the blind professor asked his aides among whom included, his adopted daughter Betty Nabitosi Kanyeihamba and Norman Tumuhimbise, Executive Director, Kanyeihamba Foundation, what the sirens were all about.

Upon being told that it was his best friend Besigye being driven by security, the late ordered for an appointment with the optician to operate him so that he could regain his sight and watch all injustices being subjected against Besigye.

Even when his aides tried to convince him that it could be risky given his age, the brave professor insisted that at least one eye at a time was to under go an operation and indeed, he was able to gain his sight and by the time of his death, he was able to see but most importantly, he died with a very active and update memory.
