Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom through her Prime Minister, Andrew Kirungi Byakutaga Ateenyi on Wednesday morning became the second cultural institution to endorse the legal giant Eron Kiiza for the Uganda Law Society, ULS top seat, praising his resilience and consistence towards to the promotion of constitutionalism and rule of law in Uganda.
Before Buunyoro, HRH Charles Wesley Mumbere, Rwenzururu King had already endorsed Eron, who he exclaimed, as one of the few reliable and rule of law champions and legal brains when it comes to fighting for the rights of the magnalized.
Byakutaga appealed to Kiiza to fight hard in protecting the professional pride, intensify the fight against legal vulgarity amongst lawyers, and promote decency.
Byakutaga also expressed concern over the dress code of some lawyers, which to him isn’t expected of them and undermines their dignity, respect and public trust most especially during court sessions. .
The prime minister further asked Eron to always feel at home whenever he felt like visiting the kingdom.
He pledged to continue working with the ULS and Eron Kiiza in particular, saying, a number of the kingdom subjects are members of the Legal fraternity.
Eron, who was on the Ankole-Tooro-Bunyoro ULS Presidency consultative tour, says he is contesting to consolidate and unchain the bar.
However, as of today, ULS leadership still grapples in confusion after several contradicting statements both from the secretariat and President Isaac Ssemakadde, being issued, creating uncertainty about the elections.
The latest statement by Ssemakadde before the court pronounces self on whether such meetings are possible after the earlier decision blocking the same, election is hinted as a minor issue to be discussed, leaving some members who would wish the matter to be tabled at crossroad.
It has also been known that, another challenge being faced by Ssemakadde is to explain to members how SC. Kiryowa Kiwanuka, Attorney General whom the current leadership had declared number one fraternity enemy, is to be presence as the chief guest representing H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Septermber 18, 2025 at the Memorial lecture of the late Sam Kalega Njuba.
This crossroad has raised eyebrow amongst members, some saying, that, this is a deliberate move as part of the behind alleged talks for his liberty.
