Over $250M Fund for Responding to Loss and Damage (FRLD) has been earmarked to bail out Developing Countries to deal with the climate disasters aftermath that are arising.

This was revealed to journalists during the 3rd virtual cross-border consortium science Cafe on gender, health, and climate change on Thursday afternoon.

According to Aundrey Masita – Regional Communication and Advocacy Coordinator, Mission Inclusion, women and children are the most affected groups of people by climate changes, that deepens the existing gender inequalities, through interactions with social, economic and political structures.

“Over 2,500 deaths, 4 million displacements and impacted 11 million families have been registered, all led by flash-floods” Ms. Musita said.

After the realization of some of the above challenges, the United Nations’ fund board agreed on a strategy to start-up a mechanism that will focus on strengthening responses to climate catastrophes at different national level as opposed to community levels.

Teresa further added that ensuring inclusive participation, human rights, social protection, access to energy and food, livelihood, and economic diversification, among other aspects, must be at the forefront.

She further revealed that the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is to build knowledge and provide technical and financial support to governments in addition to global coordination.

It has also come to journalists’ notice that a better allocation mechanism of transition priorities and approaches to overcome cross cutting challenges that include lack of climate financing is to be put in place.
