Charged legislator in court waiting for their trial

Cissy Namujju, Yusuf Mutembuli and Paul Akamba, Lwengo Woman MP, Bunyole also the vice chairperson of Parliament’s Legal Affairs Committee, and the Busiki County MP respectively have this Wednesday afternoon been charged before the Anti-Corruption Court in Kampala subsequently remanded to Kitalya Prison over corruption allegations

The trio has pleaded not guilty of the offenses

According to Court records the the arrested solicited percentage shares on the Uganda Human Rights Commission’s 2024/25 budget,with the intent to influence its increase.

The trio accused of collaborating with Ministry of Finance officials to solicit bribes from accounting officers in exchange for approving government agency budgets.

It is believed according to the investigations that two of the MPs are charged in connection for their roles in the Budget Committee of Parliament, where they previously served.

After thorough police thorough searches conducted at the MPs’ residences on Entebbe Road, Mukono, and Naalya, several evidences were recovered including alleged huge sums of cash in billions.

Some sources claims that, one of the MPs accused, participated in unclear deals with some Kenyans during the November 2023 Petroleum Supplies Amendment Bill process.

It is said that another legislator amassed huge sums of billion shillings in unclear circumstances while serving on the budget committee from different government agencies.

Another MP is also said to have spending the said sums on luxurious personal projects like buying of SUV with personalized number plates, construction of magnificent homes and family
first class flights to expensive cities like London and is said that, was plan to buy a $3 million house in the USA.

The trio arrest comes in a time when nationals are suffering from poor service delivery which is connected to high level breed corruption of government officials and politicians which prompted president Museveni to cough hard.
